Alabama State of Mind

Got up early this morning, while it was still that almost dark that you can make out shapes in but if you wanted you could go back to sleep.

I took the dogs for a walk and loved the stillness of the Sunday morning. While I was walking I decided I would miss church this week, and if I change my mind, our church "fosters" another church which meets in the afternoons at our sanctuary. There was a light breeze, which was just right and no one was about---just perfect! I came back and read blogs, took some photos and made breakfast: oatmeal with blueberries and turkey sausage.

Then I made a new playlist on my iTunes inspired by a playlist I found on another blog. And as I looked for songs to fit the new playlist from my music library, I remembered this favorite by Shelby Lynne, called Where I'm From:

Heaven knows this ain't no Margaret Mitchell

where the oak trees meet the pines

I know it might sound kinda simple

oh but it's mine oh it's mine

Thought I heard a logman cuttin' timber

down the Mississippi line

I'm up the old Tombigbee river

high as the pines, all the time

Elegamment les batos passant

ben on la flota vec du van

all I'm trying to say is

I'm never far away

from an Alabama frame of mind

Jubilation risin' on the bayou

celebration in the wind

Father Pat gives benediction

cross the Coden bridge again

Crickets spreadin' rumors by the shoreline

with the lonesome lady whine

crab trap full of nothin

I'm high as the tide, all the time

The slow, lazy tune and the cajun crooning seem to suit my mood this morning, and I'm looking forward to an afternoon of the same.

  1. Must be something in the air,
was thinking about Bama this morning as well, and a wonderful festival i went to in Mobile a few years back.

  2. Oh Molly! [the good golly, miss is implied, right?] What gorgeous photos you take - love love love them! I am so glad you commented, cause then I got to come and find you. Nice to meet you! :)

  3. Loooooove today's post! Give us the rest of that play list, SSG likes the start of it : )
