Snow Watch ATL 2009 - Noon
Snow Watch ATL 2009 - 9 am

Yesterday, the rain that needed to steer itself to Atlanta's largest water supply went south so we didn't get all the precipitation we had hoped for. My only concern with the rain was if the power went out, I would have a flooded basement because I didn't purchase the battery backup for the sump pump. We'll discuss that another day. Suffice it to say that I came home early Friday afternoon and heard the pump empty 4 or 5 times over a 3 hour period. I love it when things work.
The sun even broke through around 3 pm or so. But by dusk the drizzle had started again and the breeze picked up. I went to bed thinking, okay, we might actually get snow.
This morning I woke up and saw rain. Again, welcome rain. But snow is funner precipitation, at least for a little while. And at least one of you that read this blog is pining for snow.
So I decided I would post pictures throughout the day of where we are in our Snow Watch. Can you see the water droplets in the photo above?
Stay tuned.

Making It Up As I Go Along
When I moved to this house, I engaged a decorator/designer to help me pull together this house. And then I promptly interfered. But Diane did help me come up with a color scheme, pick out some furniture (that had to be strategic because the house is small) and find some things for me here and there.
One of the recommendations she made was to finish off my bathroom with silhouettes - their cream and black color scheme would go nicely with the old yellow tile and black walls (it's better than it sounds, click here to see). I set about finding some old silhouettes, mostly from eBay because I was not about to pay what the antique stores around here wanted (this would be the interfering part).
I have finally amassed enough, and they have been residing in a drawer long enough that I feel I must deal with them.
One problem. I have 6 in frames and two more that need frames. I don't want that many holes in the plaster walls. They aren't forgiving when you change your mind.
So from the crevices of my mind, I recalled something where someone had framed padded burlap and hung a number of things on the burlap. With only that to go on, I had to make it up as I went along.
Off to Michael's and Hancock's. I came home with this:
Then, with a little trial and error, I cut the batting and the burlap. Below I've started taping it down with packing tape.
After a lot more tape, I put the burlap thing in the frame to look at how the silhouettes would look in the frame.

I tweaked the layout - the one below looks better to me. Now I'm considering how to affix the silhouettes to the burlap as they're so decrepit that the hanging hardware is broken or falling off most of them. Hot glue gun is looking pretty good right now.
Wait - I just realized there are an even number of silhouettes here. One will have to be removed. Which is good because that will make 3 separate ones to hang on the other wall in the bathroom.
Only the bottom left silhouette had a name on it - Gladys Henderson.

So, before I could hang the silhouettes on the burlap/batting, I had to make some minor repairs to the decrepit pieces - literally the wood of the frame flaked when I tied to tap in a small hook, easily repaired with a hot glue gun. And I settled on Christmas ornament hangers to hang each silhouette.

I think Gladys will approve of her new display.

Flotsam and Jetsam
I can't seem to kick the clutter. But it's genetic, I'm from a long line of cluttered relatives, those who figured that spending time with family, cooking, playing with your camera, reading, walking your dogs or napping was more important that dealing with the flotsam and jetsam of life.
Below is my desk. The picture tells the story.

In a few days, family will be arriving. The question is if the clutter will be gone before they get here.
Did I mention this is a small house? As in very little storage?
This is a small house. Withvery little no storage to speak of. Just changing out the wardrobe for each season is painful.
I made a schedule that spread out the clutter eradication tasks into manageable bites over the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Starting today and ending in triumph on Wednesday.
I'm already behind.
Help me.

Willie's Run

Confused? This is still a Sunday Scene as this is located just up the street from my house. Who knew such things were going on in my neighborhood?

Sunday Scenes
Blogdom seems to include a great many theme days: Wordless Wednesday, Ten Word Tuesday, Morbid Monday no wait, that's another one of my ideas, Skywatch Friday and the list goes on.
Never wanting to be exactly like everyone else, I've been waiting for some inspiration for a way to feature photos from my neighborhood and those nearby. It finally hit me: Sunday Scenes. or Scene on Sunday. No, Sunday Scenes. That way I can take the picture any old time, and put it up on Sunday. Scene on Sunday would imply I found it on Sunday, ran over, took the picture and scurried back to put it up on the blog.
I assure you, nothing nor nobody never moves that quickly on a Sunday at my house. And probably never will. Except for when I go to the early service in December to see the babies put on the Christmas story.
Anyway, without further adieu. Adieu? a-do? to-do? atchoo! Please excuse me, fall allergies are the worst.
This is a home in my neighborhood that always dresses up for the holidays. And since it's up from the road, I think it looks like it's the featured house on this particular street. This is not the best angle, but it was the only one I could get given the parking on the side of the street I needed to be on, and as I hope you have realized by now, It's All About Me. If you click on the photo, you can get a better sense of all the detail. There's fall color in the window boxes, a beautiful wreath, pumpkins on the steps and landing and the cornstalks have some sort of white that I can't identify but looks nice. You know, maybe they have included some cotton with the cornstalks.
I don't think there will be so many words from now on in Sunday Scenes, but I'm not promising anything.
