Snow Watch ATL 2009 - 9 am

We've been being prepared for the flood of rain that was to hit the state (and welcome, rain!) and for the tail end of the storm to include, brace yourselves, SNOW.

Yesterday, the rain that needed to steer itself to Atlanta's largest water supply went south so we didn't get all the precipitation we had hoped for. My only concern with the rain was if the power went out, I would have a flooded basement because I didn't purchase the battery backup for the sump pump. We'll discuss that another day. Suffice it to say that I came home early Friday afternoon and heard the pump empty 4 or 5 times over a 3 hour period. I love it when things work.

The sun even broke through around 3 pm or so. But by dusk the drizzle had started again and the breeze picked up. I went to bed thinking, okay, we might actually get snow.

This morning I woke up and saw rain. Again, welcome rain. But snow is funner precipitation, at least for a little while. And at least one of you that read this blog is pining for snow.

So I decided I would post pictures throughout the day of where we are in our Snow Watch. Can you see the water droplets in the photo above?

Stay tuned.

  1. Not me? Are you kidding???!!!

I have been on Unisys, NOAA, and the EasternUSwx boards since late last night!!!

I am holding my breath though and I will periodically check back in with you for updates...as that is the best source of real time data as opposed to trying to decide what is virga on a radar and what is actual precipitation.

I will also do post updates on my Marlene Snow Hope 2009!!! Our weather is not suppose to come in until late tonight...sitting on my hands with fingers and toes crossed!!!!

  2. Yes, I can see the water droplets!

We currently have a nice thick dusting of snow here in Maryland and are awaiting the promised 3-6 inches much later today.

Thank you for your kind words on my blog this morning, Molly. And for the Kelby texture tutorial!

  3. Ooooh fun! Dude, had I known you all wanted snow so bad I could have sent down that 2 week storm that had me locked in my house in December!

Get your cocoa fixins ready! And if that includes some liquor ALL THE BETTER.

    xo,
